GENERATIONS

The global population will continue to grow for another three generations. It will be non-trivial to empower societies by offering solutions to humanity’s most complex and universal needs, optimizing systems they rely on, safeguarding against risks that could make societies more fragile in the face of crises and extending individual and collective potential for growth, development and well-being.

COLLABORATION

Individually we can achieve only so much. Collaboration, with a twist, is the way forward. Enhanced problem-solving, learning and innovation by redesigning collaborative structures and processes among humans, including different generations, between humans and machines, and between machines.

TRANSFORMING HUMANITY

This is the power to radically change ways of life by replacing the models that countries, communities and individuals live by – if they don’t work. These new models enable individuals and communities to innovate, improve and aid the transformation of humanity to new digital and non-digital realities.

Global Futures Society

The Global Futures Society (GFS) seeks to be the single largest convener of futurists, scenario planners and foresight analysts from entities to create global view and enable institutional collaborations from multiple regions and sectors like they have never existed before.

WORKSHOPS AND ACTIVATIONS

Flipping the Script: How can Films Shape Positive AI Futures?

When you imagine the future of AI, do you think of The Terminator? The Matrix? Films provide powerful cultural narratives that can shape our expectations and actions. Join us for an interactive workshop where participants will use a custom deck of cards to imagine brand new stories about the future of AI. Groups will first create an AI disaster film, then flip their scripts to reimagine them as hopeful documentaries. We will need all kinds of stories to guide us to a positive future where AI becomes a tool that benefits all. What kinds of stories will you tell?

Shaping Health Futures: What Actions Today Will Build a Healthier Tomorrow?

In this workshop, participants will engage in a backcasting session inspired by the Museum of Health Futures, an initiative by WHO Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) and the Museum of Discovery (MOD.). Participants will take on the role of health strategists, envisioning future health scenarios through curated speculative objects. Guided by WPRO experts, they will explore these future scenarios and identify critical present-day actions that align with WHO’s broader public health goals. This interactive session encourages participants to contribute perspectives, shaping resilient, adaptable strategies for health and well-being. Join us to explore futures thinking, refine strategies, and help shape WHO’s vision for a healthier Western Pacific Region.

Future of Making: A New Material Culture?

Future of Making is an exploration of the why it is crucial to break away from the linear take-make-waste infinite line and move towards a closed loop system where all stages of making happen in sync with nature. It reimagines the role of materials, their sourcing, manufacturing, application and repurposing while continuously challenging our definitions of use and value.

Futures Imaginarium: How Can We Build Resilient Societies Through Strategic Decision Making?

Participants will play Seeds of the Future, a short, fast paced strategy game in which they take on the role of a decisionmaker and planner who is trying to create a flourishing society. Participants will have to make some tough choices and won’t be able to prioritize everything. Choosing wisely is key as their actions will shape the future. This game is being developed by Forum for the Future and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA) for RPA’s Futures and Foresight Community of Practice. The hosts invite participants to offer feedback and further shape the game before it’s public launch.

Build Your Own Commissioner: What Does the Declaration on Future Generations Mean for Your Region?

What might it practically look like to implement the Declaration on Future Generations? This experimental, hands-on workshop will centre conversations around what creating a Future Generations Commissioner role might look like in various contexts around the world. Hear from people leading in this work in different regions, then together start to prototype mechanisms that provide support and accountability between citizens, leaders and organisations. A joint experiment between the School of International Futures, Smithery, and Futures Friends, this is an unrivalled opportunity to harness the input and guidance from experts at the Dubai Future Forum to shape a practical toolkit to employ around the world.

Play-Full Futures

How might we open the door to possible futures with a more playful mindset? After months of research, RADAR’s Play-Full Future Report discovered that play — and all of the whimsy, mischief, and freedom it brings — is a key mode for building better futures together. The research also found that to play well with others, it’s important that individuals first reflect on their own relationship with play. This session will help participants find their own playful archetype and then integrate that into multiplayer futures worldbuilding — starting with a collective imagining on the future of museums.
