About Speaker

Dr Mehdi Ghommem serves as the Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Outreach in the College of Engineering at the American University of Sharjah (AUS). He holds a PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech, USA, and has extensive experience in industry, having worked as a research scientist with Schlumberger, the global leader in oil and gas technology. His research focuses on nonlinear dynamics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and bio-robotics. To date, he has published over 100 refereed journal papers and holds one granted patent with three additional US patent applications. His achievements have been recognised through multiple awards, including the CEN Excellence in Research Award (2020), the Outstanding International Collaboration Award (2023), and the Outstanding Interdisciplinary Research Team Award (2024). Since 2020, Stanford University has included him among the World’s Top 2% Scientists.
