Kinda Al Kateb
Syria
“When we recreate our lives”. This is the title that Kinda gives to her story.
Kinda Al Kateb, a young Syrian woman, has lived in the UAE for more than 15 years. However, her family and economic circumstances prevented her from completing her education and getting a degree that enables her to work.
When she saw an ad on social media directed to those who have dreams in their hearts, to those who want to build a better future for themselves and to those who want to regain control of their lives, she felt as though the ad was directed to her personally.
She said: “I will be among this million”.
As the ad promised, Kinda developed one of the most demanding skills in the UAE labour market after completing more than one course in coding through the One Million Arab Coders initiative. Now she is moving up and making a change in a technology company in the UAE.
She says: “My passion was driving me. I decided that my life is mine and I want to change its course. I put all my experiences in what I have learned through coding lessons in the service of every company I train in. I began creating small and simple programs, but they always made a difference until I was hired as a coder and now have gained the financial stability and support to complete my studies and graduate from university”. Kinda volunteered at Expo 2021 to explain to children the importance of coding and the need to learn it. She says: “It’s the least I can do. I want to give every person I meet in my life the advice I always wish I had gotten”.
