Photography and Graphic Design

This category seeks to highlight the unique visual, typographic, and design aspects of the Emirati Futurist aesthetic. 

How will our photographs look like in the future? What story would they tell? How will posters, billboards, advertisements and computer interfaces look like? How will they incorporate things like multiple languages while retaining a distinct look and feel? What fonts will they use and how will images be composed? What colors will it use? What textures and information density will it have? How will it be different from other forms of graphic design?

Try to imagine a promotional poster, a book cover, a billboard, a well curated photograph, or an augmented reality interface that communicates these feelings. Apply it to any treatment you like as long as it expresses your sense of Emirati Futurism and style.

What is covered by this category?

Submissions can include photography, photo-manipulation, illustration, and/or hand-drawn images. These could represent posters, book covers, signs, billboards or advertisements. The purpose is to showcase a unique look and feel which incorporates traditional typographic and design elements with cutting edge perspectives and futuristic elements. 

Submission should include the following

• One to three A4 to A0 size files which include either 2D/3D renderings, sketches, drawings or images of your product with a 300dpi resolution
• 100 words paragraph describing your idea and how it reflects the Emirati Futurism aesthetic

Optional

One to three A4 to A0 size file which includes sketches, mood-board, or images that support your idea.

Submission formats

• Images (.jpg or .pdf)

Judging Criteria

Your idea will be scored according to the following factors:

1. Innovation: How original, creative and clever was the submission? Does it conceptually deliver on the challenge theme?
2. Presentation: How well executed was the submission, from a technical / quality point of view?
3. Values: Does the submission build on, respond to, or reference the heritage and experience of the UAE?
